Day 2: Arusha to Lake Natron

Today begins your off-the-beaten-track journey as you head toward the dramatic and rarely-visited Lake Natron. Traveling along the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, the scenery quickly shifts from forested slopes to dry, rugged terrain. As you approach the surreal landscape near the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the “Mountain of God,” the colors become more intense—the crimson hues of the earth, the shimmering pink flocks of flamingos, and the silvery-blue soda lake below.

After arriving at your lodge near the lake, enjoy a guided walk to the edge of Lake Natron. This otherworldly place is home to East Africa’s largest breeding grounds of lesser flamingos. Day 3: Lake Natron to Northern Serengeti

After an early breakfast, your route continues north, slowly climbing winding roads out of the Rift Valley. You’ll pass remote Maasai villages before entering the Serengeti via Kleins Gate. As you descend into the vast plains of Northern Serengeti, you’ll likely encounter your first herds of wildebeest, especially if you’re visiting during their return migration (Oct–Dec).

Lobo area, your destination for the night, is one of the Serengeti’s hidden gems. Permanent water sources here support a wide array of wildlife—from leopards lurking around rocky kopjes to elephants wandering the open savannah. End the day watching the sun dip behind the hills as wildlife silhouettes roam the horizon.

Day 4: Full Day in Northern Serengeti

Day 9: Materuni Waterfalls & Kikuletwa Hot Springs
