Day 1 – Welcome to Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to your boutique hotel. Once settled, you’ll enjoy a short city sightseeing tour of Arusha, visiting vibrant local markets, the Maasai craft market, and cultural landmarks such as the Arusha Museum. This is a great opportunity to experience Tanzania’s urban culture before heading into the wild.

Day 2 – Transfer to Ndutu: Calving Season in Full Swing

After breakfast, you’ll depart for the Ndutu area within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes approximately 5.5 hours, and the scenery quickly shifts from forested highlands to expansive plains. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a game drive amid millions of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and antelopes, who gather here each year to calve.

Between late December and March, these plains transform into a nursery—and a hunting ground—as predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas lie in wait. This is one of the best times to witness both the raw beauty and harsh reality of life in the wild.

Day 3 – Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Today begins with a sunrise game drive through the Ndutu plains, offering another chance to witness the ongoing calving and perhaps spot big cats on the hunt. After a picnic lunch, you’ll make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, arriving by late afternoon.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Africa’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Expect to spot herds of zebra, buffalo, elephants, and maybe even a rare black rhino en route. You’ll spend the night at a luxurious lodge perched on the crater rim, overlooking the breathtaking landscape.

Day 4 – Ngorongoro Crater Safari & Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for one of the richest wildlife viewing experiences in Africa. The crater floor is teeming with life, including elephants, lions, rhinos, hyenas, hippos, flamingos, and much more.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic hippo pool before ascending back to the rim and beginning your return journey to Arusha. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon or early evening and be dropped off at your hotel or the airport—concluding your unforgettable 4-day calving season safari.
